Rhizome
A rhizome is the stem that spreads sideways underground: a structure that connects and grows without a centre.
The piece is built around an object of standing columns and the threads strung between them. When the performers pull and weave the threads, the movement is turned into sound and image in real time, and separate gestures connect into one network. Partway through, the audience comes in to weave and pull as well, and becomes part of the work.
I made the live visuals from point clouds and projected them down onto the floor, so the room itself becomes the ground the rhizome runs through — a landscape of relation that keeps extending as long as people keep joining it.
