About

Iver Kim (b.1998) is a composer and visual artist based in Seoul. She works between sound and image, composing electroacoustic and drone music, recording in the field, building audiovisual installations, and making graphic scores.

Trained in fine art before music technology, she approaches sound as a spatial and painterly medium, occasionally drawing on classical music and instrumental performance inside electronic contexts. Her attention goes to subtle and often barely perceptible sonic events: small vibrations, fragile gestures, and the thresholds between noise, tone and silence.

She calls the subject impossible dialogues, between nature, humanity and the digital. Something organic runs through the forms and the sounds. She stays in unstable states in between, where perception shifts and time stretches, asking how the smallest sonic matter can open into an immersive spatial and temporal experience.

The paintings hold the same question from the other side. She approaches memory as something that cannot be reached, and faces and rooms lose their original shape. What is sharp is smoothed or covered over with thick paint, what is ordinary takes on a sublime colour, and every portrait becomes a self portrait.

Her work has been presented in Seoul, Osaka, Münster, Copenhagen, London, Amsterdam and Utrecht, and in spatial audio contexts such as ICLC using WFS Collider and performances with 4DSOUND. She has been in residence at Elektronmusikstudion in Sweden.

Iver Kim received her BA in Fine Art from Korea National University of Arts in 2021 and her Master of Music in Music Design from HKU Utrecht in 2025.
